Project Life
Project Life is a method of recording your life using page protectors that fit in a 3-ring binder album and filling them with journaling cards and photos. The simplicity of this system fits well with a busy lifestyle. I use many of the products developed by Becky Higgins who coined the term and defined the method. Here you will find the posts about my approach to recording our life and the abundant life surrounding us.
Project Life Update
A funny thing has been happening with me and project life. I had it all figured out and started in on it. And – um – well, I learned I didn’t have it all figured out. But that’s a good thing – it’s just yet more proof to me that I better allow things to follow their own course. Years ago I would have quit it all together and let a partially started project sit there on the shelf, reminding me that it didn’t work. I’d focus on it not fitting my ideas… Read more...
First Insect Under the Shop Light
I’ve been checking for a few days now – today and yesterday got up into the low 60′s here – insanely warm when you KNOW there are still snows to come. But here it was – the first insect on the wall of the shop under the mercury vapor light: This will be printed and added to my Project Life album. The graphic with “Life is Good” came from Becky Higgins’ Clementine Elements digital kit with the center words erased/masked out. Read more...
February’s Snow and Frost
Just thought I’d share a couple of photos recently added into my Project Life album (catching up on that). That night in early February created the prime conditions for frost on every surface just even slightly off the ground. The day before, though, we had some of the nicest powder snow I’ve seen this season. One of these days I hope to get a setup to really be able to photograph snowflakes. But for now, I just work with the tripod and macro lens. Snow and frost absolutely enchant me. I’m… Read more...
Right Now 3 Feb 2012
Take a moment and jot down all that’s going on right now. I just did that to fill in a card for Project Life, but any type of RIGHT NOW journaling works for anything you want to record and to help you seal the moment in your memory. I find it an easy way to take field notes. Read more...
Project Life: Week 4
Just an average week – Sorry about having to cover up the story there, but it’s something we’re just not quite sure how it’ll turn out yet. I’ll share this page again when we know more. Read more...
Project Life – Week 3
Here’s how week 3 turned out: I’m using my Clear Date Stamps for the main journaling card, and erased the middle of a .png file from Becky Higgins’ Clementine Digital Elements and just added in a few words about the snow shoeing photo. The Sticker on the ‘hay train’ photo is just an Avery product from the store. Added in a print of a screenshot of the WSJ which we’re now getting online. The colors in that center row somewhat surprised me – I’m taking… Read more...
Project Life – Week 2
I spent some time this weekend catching up on a few projects – one of them was Project Life – got that completely caught up, but I’ll be sharing weeks 3 and 4 in a bit. A couple of thoughts on this: * How in the heck did it already become Week FIVE? * Field Notes – to do project life, you either need to do the recording immediately, or you need to take field notes. It doesn’t matter whether you keep a journal (my main reference when working on past weeks), notebook,… Read more...
Project Life – Week 1
We lead such a full life – amazingly full at times. I’ve finally completed Week 1 and much of Week 2 and have a good start on this week, week 3. I have to say, without the ability to print at home, I think I’d give up on this completely, but with my Selphy, I find I’m getting a system down to carve out a bit of time every few days to print and add items. Getting Week 1 done all the way has been the motivation. Looking at those pages, I really find a tremendous amount of satisfaction… Read more...
Making it Work
We all have ‘stoppers’ – little things that can trip us up and spoil our best laid plans. Project Life is one of those things I REALLY want to do, but it dumped me on my tush harder than I could have imagined! I thought shifting over the last half of last year to this system would be a snap. I’ve been scrapping all along – right? My BH products (as opposed to B&H Products that also sometimes arrive here) came in and I busily got to work. But it’s FAR from… Read more...
More Project Life Setup
The main reason I’m jumping in on Project Life is because of its simplicity. Over the years, I’ve learned I’m easily sidetracked by the volume of product and great ideas out there; I’ve spent much too much time and creativity on simply deciding what product to use. I can see that starting to happen in Project Life – lots of great ideas and products out there. Almost an overwhelming amount. Bottom Line: Project Life is my auto pilot. I don’t want to spend time… Read more...
